The polar bear faces imminent extinction and the world watches without batting an eyelid. According to a new study, polar bears can well be described as ‘vulnerable’. The ice in the Arctic region is breaking up rapidly and this is causing this species endless despair during the months they have to go without food. This phenomenon is making these helpless animals come to the shore at an earlier time than usual. Though there are around 25, 000 polar bears in the entire Arctic region today, the number is likely to go down beyond proportion within the next half of the century. Gradually, their ability to find food and reproduce will decrease and before long the end will have neared. And if there is anybody to blame it is man and his activities. Is anybody listening?
